The Crocodile, 2025

$7,000.00

René Lacoste was first given the nickname “the Crocodile” by the American press after he bet his team captain a crocodile-skin suitcase that he would win his match. The moniker stuck due to his aggressive playing style. In 1933 he and André Gillier began the famous fashion brand that is credited with the invention of the tennis shirt. Also called the polo shirt. It was the first time a brand logo was displayed on the outside of a garment.

Enamel painted on salvaged shutters with “L” insignia.
